Exploring the World

Travelling has always been a source of inspiration and perspective for me. From exploring the temples of South India to experiencing the vibrant culture of new cities across the United States, each trip broadens my understanding of the world and reminds me how much there is to discover beyond the lab and the classroom.

What Draws Me to Travel

I am drawn to places that offer a mix of natural beauty, history, and local culture. Whether it is the intricate carvings of a centuries-old temple, the quiet vastness of a mountain trail, or the energy of a bustling city market, I find that every place has a story to tell. Travelling pushes me out of my comfort zone — navigating unfamiliar places, trying new cuisines, and connecting with people from different backgrounds.

Memorable Journeys

Some of my most memorable experiences in the US have been road trips and outdoor adventures — exploring the red rock landscapes of Arizona, the stunning national parks of Utah, and witnessing the geysers and wildlife of Yellowstone in Wyoming. Presenting research at MEMOCODE 2024 in Raleigh, NC also gave me the chance to explore the city beyond the conference halls. Mixing academic travel with exploration has become one of my favorite aspects of being a researcher — every trip is an opportunity to both share knowledge and absorb new experiences.

Back home in India, I have loved exploring the vibrant streets and cultural richness of Kolkata, the beaches and laid-back energy of Goa, the bustling pace of Mumbai, the serene mountains of Uttarakhand, and the majestic forts and deserts of Rajasthan. Each region has its own distinct flavor of food, language, and tradition, and travelling through India alone could be a lifelong pursuit.

Travel as Perspective

More than anything, travelling reminds me that the world is vast and full of stories waiting to be discovered. It brings humility — realizing how many different ways people live, create, and solve problems. It also brings fresh perspective that I carry back into my work and everyday life. Some of my best ideas have come not from staring at a screen, but from a quiet moment on a train, a conversation with a stranger, or a walk through an unfamiliar neighborhood.

I hope to continue exploring — both the places I have dreamed of visiting and the unexpected detours that make every journey unique.
